PHENOMENAL PACIFIC REGION

The Pacific Region was first identified as the Western Region in 1933. It’s first Regional Director was R. Lillian Carpenter. The Region’s first two chapters were both in Los Angeles, California; Gamma Sigma Zeta and Theta Eta Zeta. They merged in 1955 to become the Alpha Psi Zeta Chapter. Xi Alpha was the first undergraduate chapter of the region also located in Los Angeles, California. In 1996 the region expanded to Asia with the chartering of the Pi Eta Zeta Chapter in Seoul, Korea; Laura Farwell and Beatrice Nelson conducted the chartering ceremony.

The Phenomenal Pacific Region has provided 85 years of unwavering support to the tenants of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. The name “Phenomenal” was adopted from the poem by Maya Angelou, Phenomenal Woman as a declaration of our commitment to Finer Womanhood; in character, community service and our educational pursuits. This motto, was the brainchild of Stacye Montez who hails from San Francisco, California and is the thirteenth Regional Director of the Pacific Region. Stacye Montez also served at the Sorority’s Executive Director from 2010 – 2015.

The Pacific Region is the home to prominent members of the organization including the 23rd International President, Sheryl P. Underwood. She served as President from 2008 to 2012 and took the presence of Zeta Phi Beta to new acclaim. In 2014, during the International Conference in Washington, D.C., Bibliana L. Bovery was elected National Second Vice-President and Diane Fisher was elected National Treasurer.

As a region, we are excited and anticipate continual growth and great service, with the quote that is at the forefront of our minds….” Every day is a new Possibility.”
